The last time The Open was played at Royal Liverpool Golf Club was in 2006 when Tiger Woods played some outstanding golf on the way to his first major since the passing of his father, Earl Woods. Tiger played out of his mind, and had to hold off not just Chris Demarco, but also Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia — the latter of which there is still bad blood between. In addition to winning, Tiger also tied the lowest Open Championship score of 270. It only seems fitting that Tiger is returning this week to a course that gave him a little magic back in 2006. The last time The Open was played at Royal Liverpool before 2006 was in 1967 when Jack Nicklaus came in second to Robert De Vicenzo. Other notable winners at this course include Walter Hagen in 1924, and Bobby Jones in 1930 – the year of his grand slam.
